Ron Spector

Bio

Ron Spector has had a successful career of over 20 years as an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, investment banker, advisor and CEO in digital media, e-commerce, mobile-wireless and internet applications. Ron’s career has seen an evolution from business lawyer, investment banker and venture capitalist to a C-Level executive and advisor, bringing a wealth of experience to both early stage and mature digital media and internet technology companies.

From 1996-2001 Ron was US head of Technology Investment Banking of Macquarie Group responsible for private equity transactions and mergers and acquisitions and Co-Investment Director for Macquarie Venture Capital, a $150 million early stage investment fund. During this period, Ron lead investments and exits in industry leading companies such as Looksmart [NASDAQ: LOOK], Telera (acquired by Alcatel SA), Onebox [NASDAQ:OPWV] and Altium [ASX:ALU]. He was also responsible for raising MVC Fund I and for lead managing a range of transactions on the investment banking side including raising over $100 million for Macquarie Bank early stage technology clients and structuring the first cross-border technology deal between Silicon Valley and Australian VC’s. Ron was also the originator and organizer of what is now known as the ANZA Technology Network, a networking and educational organization bringing together technology companies from Asia-Pac and the Silicon Valley ecosystem and was responsible for bringing in founding the sponsors Intel, Silicon Valley Bank, Macquarie and Austrade.

After leaving Macquarie, Ron advised and actively worked with a mix of established companies on strategy, strategic partnering and corporate and business development initiatives such as Acer [Taiwan: ACER], Logitech [NASDAQ:LOGN], SwissTel [NYSE: SCMN] and earlier stage companies with a focus on strategic partnering and exits such as Looksmart [NASDAQ: LOOK], Telera (acquired by Alcatel SA), and OSA Technologies (acquired by Avocent). He was also a selective angel investor in companies in which he took an active role.

Ron then focused on advisory and operational roles as CEO of Conferserv, an online video collaboration company which was the first to bridge the gap between traditional video conferencing and web-based communication and collaboration (acquired by Advanced Media Design), Senior Vice-President of Corporate Strategy for Mediazone, Inc. (a division of MIH/Naspers, [NASDAQ: NPSN]) an online broadcast and VOD company where he negotiated rights deals, partnerships with major global media and sports organizations and was responsible for leading the worlds first live online broadcast of The Championship at Wimbledon, and most recently, CEO of Fordela, a cloud-based video management company where he lead the launch of the world’s first cloud-based 3D video management platform for managing, publishing and distributing 3D content to connected devices in partnership with Nvidia, Microsoft and Panasonic, and Vice-President of Corporate Strategy and Development for IP Video Solutions and Sambreel Mobile Applications and is on the advisory board of Buddy.com – a leading mobile applications development platform company.

Ron has served on numerous board of directors and advisory boards and has built a strong network of operating executives, consultants, and investors who bring significant value to the companies in which he gets involved.

Ron holds a B.A in Political Science and Economics (Honors) from the University of California at San Diego and his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D. Honors) from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law and lives in Tiburon, California with his wife Laureen and their two young daughters Ella and Mia.
